Matthew Bruff, CEO

Matthew co-founded Altela in 2005, a designer and manufacturer of patented wastewater treatment technology and related integrated services. Matthew has over 20 years of experience in both the natural resource and technology industries and has acquired numerous precedent-setting legal and regulatory permits across the United States with respect to the treatment and beneficial re-use and recycling of wastewater fluids including oil and gas wastewater. He was a nominated subject matter technical expert with respect to wastewater treatment and related modeling for U.S. EPA’s study on hydraulic fracturing. He is a named inventor on several patents (US and international) dealing with water treatment and purification. Prior to Altela, he was a shareholder in an AV-rated law firm and specialized in water and natural resource law projects for the World Bank, Fortune 500 companies, irrigation districts and related stakeholders. He also worked at U.S. DOE’s Sandia National Laboratories’ Technology Transfer & Commercialization Center assisting technology entrepreneurs commercialize laboratory technology. Matthew received his Juris Doctorate as well as his MBA in Policy, Environment and Economics from the University of New Mexico.

    Steve came to Altela in 2011 as a high-performance, results oriented management professional with experience in process improvement, industrial maintenance and controls, and extensive work in the field both domestic and international. Steve has been instrumental in the successful start-ups of Altela's Marcellus Water Treatment Plants and other AltelaRain® installations. His extensive career with Intel spanned over two decades managing semiconductor manufacturing with responsibilities including safety, quality and work load priority for facility technicians across functional areas, as well as ISO 9000 audit, culture and vision committees, communication monitoring, recruiter and interviewer. His hands-on manufacturing management experience includes utilizing 5’s and Six Sigma, Instructor for Lean principles, Seven Step and Kaizan facilitation, Team Leadership, and High Precision Maintenance. Steve received Industrial, Technical and Trade education including HVAC trade school, has a GB98 New Mexico Contractors License, IR Scan level 1.2.3.4, Allen Bradley PLC levels 1-3, Refrigerant Certification, and Nace levels 1-3 corrosion and chemical treatment.

      Steven Cummings, VP, Business Development

      Steven joined Altela in 2015 to lead the company’s business development after several years of working as an Analyst for North Shore Energy, LLC with Altela in its role of Portfolio Company. During that time, he conducted cost/benefit analysis for projects and provided recommendations for pursuit, developed dynamic financial models for business ventures and was the sole GIS scientist responsible for market planning, site selection, land management, oil and gas waste production reporting, and other ad-hoc requests. Prior to that, Steven owned and operated his own consulting business after years of experience in the hospitality industry. He has a strong marketing and operations background, including project management for Portfolio operations, for large companies such as Choice Hotels International, Inc. and Sam’s Club of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Steven has also worked as an analyst providing GIS/ mapping technical assistance to customers as well as providing crucial data for public and private initiatives. Steven received his Masters in Geographic Information Science from the University of Denver as well as his Bachelors in Marketing from the University of Oklahoma.

        Shelley joined Altela in 2007 and leads the company’s human resource management overseeing strategic development, communications and non-manufacturing operations, compliance, employee relations, workforce planning, recruiting and hiring, benefits and corporate culture. Shelley encompasses a mix of qualitative/ quantitative knowledge and over 20 years of experience in business administration including human resources for a broad variety of businesses. Prior to working at Altela, Shelley was co-owner of an SEO internet marketing and website design company, and an international account manager for a professional skin care company. Her career in the high-tech world took off with start-up companies in the Silicon Valley during the ‘dot-com boom’ with competitive corporate culture, recruiting and administration. Shelley has a Certification in Human Resource Management from the Anderson School’s Management Development Center, and has studied liberal arts at De Anza College and the University of New Mexico. She has been a member of SHRM, HRMA NM, and has completed ethics and auditing workshops.

          Penny Omtvedt, Controller - ControllerController

          Penny Omtvedt, Controller

          Penny joined Altela in 2013 and leads the company’s financial administration functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, joint venture accounting and support, account analysis, financial compliance, internal and external reporting. Penny is a licensed CPA with experience in contracts management, public accounting and special projects analysis for various types of entities. Her extensive accounting career spans over three decades, beginning as a Contracting Officer for the U.S. Air Force working in various locations worldwide to working for local public accounting firms. Penny’s work with Technology Management Company Inc. encompassed staff accounting concerning governmental agencies, and she was responsible as Deputy Contract Manager concerning the U.S. DOD and DOE. Penny's accounting background includes proposals, terms and conditions, document review including resolution of contract issues, cost analysis and typical financial reporting. Penny received her B.B.A. from Georgia College and her Associate Degree from CCAF in Contracts Management.
